![]() ![]() One thing that reminded me a bit of playing the first Dark Souls is that while these villagers are mostly the same group throughout the game, they move around a bit and their dialogue will update after every major story event. From here you have a main town as a base of operations to explore, with lots of villagers to talk to. ![]() Very quickly, you get stabbed, and brought back from the brink of death by being bound to the island (nexial binding I guess). View: Īnyway, you're traveling with a companion who wants to research this mystical island called Harlech. It feels very different to even the LoH stuff that came along soon after, and even contemporary Ys in terms of tone and worldview its going for. ![]() The game feels very, idk, baroque? I didn't really know what to expect with Xanadu Next, I'd heard good things, and it looked like kb+m ARPG which felt not exactly commonplace coming from a Japanese dev, but I picked it up a while back on sale and yeah this game feels extremely ahead of its time in many ways.Īt its core, I'd probably say this game feels like slow, methodical Ys crossed with a proto-souls approach to world and level design, and even story in some ways. ![]()
